The Sins of the Father
Genev, the First Kingdom
As long as there have been humans in the world, it is said, Genev has existed. The kingdom is the eldest of the human homelands, and as such much of its founding has been forgotten or distorted by the erosion of time. While Genev takes its name from the mythic king who is said to have carved it by fire and the sword from savage tribes and marauding armies, its history is more complex than the stories paint it. Once, it was a peaceful and prosperous nation, but the death throes of the Great Cataclysm seem to have shattered it, along with the repositories of knowledge that once housed the truth of the country's founding and the past that followed.
For the past five hundred years, Genev has been a country afflicted with infighting. Ambitious nobles jockey for position beneath a royal line that seems to vary between the infirm and the insane. Miraculously, civil war has either been avoided or quickly quashed, but there is often a sort of unease just beneath the surface. To keep the peace, the nobles tend to exert themselves in foreign wars, but there is always enough of a pull towards the throne that every generation, examples must be made.
For the past twenty years, the First Kingdom has been quiet. The ascension of the current king was the most hopeful one in a long while, and although Clement has since begun to show signs of his blood's strange destiny, the future remains an optimistic one. Duke Anzel keeps peace in the south with his forces and the King himself sees to the defense in the north against Astrya, where burning battle has cooled into something approaching a peace.
